Some good news for our Neighbourhood police teams in Lambeth in the latest Lambeth Bulletin.
Neighbourhood PCSOs will be retained across Lambeth following the Government’s unexpected announcement that there will be no change to the police budget for the next four years.
Whilst this is good news, we are far from out of the woods, as the pressures of inflation and additional spending on new technologies mean savings will still be required for some time to come.
However, the funding pledge has allowed senior leaders at the Met to guarantee there will be one PCSO per council ward for the foreseeable future, working alongside the Dedicated Ward Officers as the bedrock of neighbourhood policing.
In addition, the improved outlook means that any other necessary reduction in overall PCSO numbers will be achieved through natural wastage, rather than a redundancy programme.
