NEW: Connect and Do – Community Connecting Service

The Community Connecting Service focuses on connecting people to friends, groups and places that take place outside of health and social care services.

There is growing evidence that people who have good active social networks live longer and happier lives.

The Community Connecting team aims to work with people who are isolated or are at risk of social isolation and  aims to connect people with shared interests, to build  their confidence in trying new things and meeting new people, with the hope of developing lasting friendships.

Initially a member of the team will meet with a participant that has been introduced to develop a good understanding of who they are and what they want to do and then match them to people with shared interests or groups where they can meet other people.

One to one coaching will be provided for participants to develop relationships with volunteers or friends, who will continue to provide coaching and encouragement to stay involved.

We’ve developed the Community Connecting Team and an on-line networking tool called Connect & Do to help this to happen in Lambeth.

It is a free on-line website in which people can discover a range of places to go and things to do. they can then connect with people and friends to go to places with.

The Connect & Do website can also help organisations to better promote their activities, to be more accessible for people with a range of needs. This also helps reach new audiences and to connect with other organisations.

Please see the website: http://www.connectanddo.org

We have also Connect and Do twitter site: @ConnectAndDo

We have Community Connecting volunteers who are peer supporters with lived experience who can continue to support people to stay connected with their fiends and family in the community.
